*Trigger Warning* Self Sacrifice is NO LONGER Noble. Now, it is just for…
Attention.
Ever examined how a child gets the attention desired?
The child cries or throws tantrum.
And,
in expressing unhappiness,
the child gets the attention of the heart-shaken-ed guardian with a pitiful appearance.
However,
this kind of action is not just performed by children;
it is performed by adults too.
The difference is that adults are not as straightforward because they are taught not to do what a child does.
As such,
adults have instinctually come up with many subtly similar ways to get desired attention,
like gossips, complains, self-deprecation, or similar;
in a simple word:
Comparison.
So…how do they compare?
They compare with things that make them appear weak or like victims.
While the nobility of selflessness and self-sacrifice is appreciated,
it also displays self-sacrifice as an effective way to get attention.
But,
since self-sacrifice works for the greater good,
why is there a need to highlight it as if it is an issue?
Because it is an issue and can grow into more issues (based on personal experience).
The main root of the issue is expectation.
If the act of self-sacrifice is in the expectation that it provides wanted attention,
as not everyone appreciates such acts,
With unmet expectations,
there will be resentments, frustrations, and similar.
As history and experiences have shown,
little resentments may seem harmless,
but,
as they accumulates over periods,
the undesirables eventually manifest.
On a small scale,
it may just be petty arguments.
On a large scale,
it may be world wars justified by the righteousness of killing another.
As such,
a conscious adjustment on the long-lasting imprint about self-sacrifice may be necessary to avoid replaying a gruesome history once more.
And hence,
if the eventual consequences is that self sacrifice leads to the unforeseen degeneration of humanity,
self sacrifice is no longer noble.
